The version shown in Settings reads `versionName` via `DefaultSettingsRepository`.

### Release highlights

Version **1.0.17** (relative to `1.0.16`):

- Rebuilt page filter engine (paper-aware lighting model, eight presets, Intensity 0–150 %); Room schema 5
- Library redesign: search field, folder shelf with See all, dated document sections, dedicated search screen
- Home search bar; Home, Library and search share one field style
- Tools redesign: Scan / PDF / Utilities groups; every PDF tool is choose a file → options → done
- Full-screen PDF picker (empty scans hidden), real result preview, editable output name, Save to phone / Share
- Watermark engine rebuilt: correct on rotated pages, fitted single stamps, angle-aligned tiles, colours, presets, date
- Password can restrict editing; Merge orders files before merging; Reader adds a pages grid

## Versioning policy

- **Version name** — semantic-style `MAJOR.MINOR.PATCH` for user-facing releases.
- **Version code** — monotonically increasing integer required by Play Store.
- **Distribution build types** — `githubRelease` and `playStoreRelease` share the same version and application ID; only their update provider differs.
- Bump both together on every public release.
- Record user-visible changes in [CHANGELOG.md](../CHANGELOG.md).
- Keep [VERSION.md](../VERSION.md) aligned with Gradle values.

## Upgrade notes

### From 1.0.16 to 1.0.17 (schema 5)

- Room schema **5** via `ScanlyDatabase.MIGRATION_4_5`: adds `scan_pages.filterIntensity` (default `1`, the tuned look).
- Legacy presets are remapped in `scan_pages.filterPreset` and `documents.preferredFilterPreset`: Enhanced Color → Natural, Shadow Reduction → Magic Color, Clean → Grayscale, Soft Black & White and Receipt → Faded Text.
- Existing pages keep their stored adjustments and get the new engine the next time they are captured or saved from the editor.
- `.scanly` backups written after this change include `filterIntensity`; older archives restore with `1`.
- No manual steps required.

### From 1.0.14 to 1.0.16

- No Room schema change.
- Existing pages keep their stored preset and adjustments. The new filter engine is used the next time a page is captured or saved from the editor.
- Filter picker chips, live preview, and saved JPEGs now share one analysis profile.
- Library, document, PDF reader, and Tools screens are visual-only; search, sort, export, and PDF processing semantics are unchanged.
- Play Store 16 KB page-size support requires the OpenCV `5.0.0.1` native libraries bundled in this build.

### Room schema 3 → 4 (v1.0.11)

- Adds per-page filter adjustment columns: `filterBrightness`, `filterContrast`, `filterSaturation`, `filterSharpness` (defaults `0`).
- Applied by `ScanlyDatabase.MIGRATION_3_4` registered in `DatabaseModule`.
- No manual steps; existing pages keep default (identity) adjustments.
- `.scanly` backups written after this change include the four floats; older archives restore with defaults.

### From 1.0.10 to 1.0.11

- Existing libraries migrate automatically through `MIGRATION_3_4`.
- Per-page filter adjustments default to identity values for existing pages.
- Older `.scanly` archives restore with default adjustment values; new archives include the four adjustment fields.

### From 1.0.9 to 1.0.10

- Model labels are Lite / Standard / High / Accurate; storage keys keep the same underlying weights.
- Automatic model selection defaults to **on** when unset; existing explicit off preference is preserved.
- The public 1.0.10 tag used Room schema **3**; v1.0.11 adds schema **4** for filter adjustments.

### From 1.0.0 to current

- Room migrates automatically along `1→2→3→4→5` (filter preset, document groups, filter adjustments, then filter intensity and the legacy preset remap).
- Existing documents remain; they appear ungrouped until moved into a collection.
- **Clear all data** (added in 1.0.4) is destructive and cannot be undone.
- Completed external `.scanly` backups survive clear-all-data.
- No manual migration steps required.
